Lots of family fun is lined up in Sandwell's libraries to celebrate all that is great about the Black Country.

To celebrate Black Country Day on July 14 West Bromwich Library is hosting a fun day from 10am-4pm including local history talks by Steve Melia at 11.30am and Black Country Bake Off competition.

Later in the day the library is screening a film by West Bromwich arts based Multistory featuring Black Country beekeepers; Tudor Crystal - the last multi-furnace company; and Mark goes to Mongolia, which tells the story of pigeon auctioneer, breeder and entrepreneur from Moxley

Great Bridge Library will host its third annual variety show on July 14 at 7pm featuring the best in local music, poetry and magic with performers such as Billy Spakemon, Brendan Hawthorne, 17-year-old ukulele player Cameron Aitken, Jacob Lloyd and the Missing Link.

Admission is by advance ticket only and tickets are £3 and available from the library.

At Blackheath Library an afternoon of Black Country banter  'Them Bay ‘Em Bin Bin ‘Em? is planned with support from the Rowley Town Friends Group. Advanced booking is needed.

In the  run up to Black Country Day several libraries are hosting a number of sports quizzes throughout July in aid of the smileforjoel foundation and during the festival all libraries will be displaying old photographs of each town courtesy of Sandwell’s Archives Service

On Monday 11 July Great Bridge Library is holding a cant and colour session where visitors can enjoy a cuppa with cake while colouring in some Black Country-themed colouring sheets from 11am-12noon. Tipton and Glebefields libraries are doing the same on Tuesday 12 July.

Councillor Richard Marshall, cabinet member for leisure, said: “All Sandwell libraries, which are evolving into community hubs, are putting on some bostin’ events to celebrate the best date in the diary – Black Country Day. There’s something for everyone from history, quizzes and comedy to our own bake-off which is guaranteed to give people a real taste of all that’s great about the Black Country.”
